A Helpful Guide On TPR Material

A thermoplastic rubber (TPR) material is a combination of rubber and plastics. As it has excellent physical properties, many people remain in search of a reliable TPR manufacturer. It best suits the processing for injection molding. It has several applications that you can use in many domains to mold into dozens of products. Some salient aspects of TPR material include:

  • Flexibility
  • Good tear resistance
  • Reusability
  • Recyclability
  • Good abrasion resistance.

Characteristics Of TPR:

As previously stated, TPR possesses the traits and characteristics of both plastics and rubber. It has thermoplastic and elastomeric properties. Let’s go over the characteristics of TPR.

Resilience:

With resilience and good resistance to rubber, TPR material is best for rubber in comfort and softness. It also has shock absorption performance and anti-slip properties. Its mechanical properties, fatigue resistance, and tensile strength are not as good as vulcanized rubber.

Temperature:

The range of temperature use is -45–90 °C. The material of TPR is based on SBS substrate, and its chemical properties are as follows:

  • Weather resistance
  • Aging resistance
  • Temperature resistance

Hardness:

TPR material’s hardness can be altered at a Shore hardness of 5100 degrees and modified material with SEBS as a substrate can be adjusted to lower hardness.

Processing:

TPR material has good bonding qualities with certain glues, inks, and other materials, and it can be used in the oil-jet screen printing process.

Environmental:

TPR material as an environmental soft rubber, detection of primary hazardous compounds such as:

Plasticizer phthalate

Nonylphenol NP

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon PAHs

These are by ROHS, REACH, EN71-3, and ASTMF963 environmental protection testing standards.

Advantages Of TPR:

  • TPR is processed in traditional plastic machinery or equipment. For its manufacturing, there is no requirement for high-tech, auto, or semi-auto molding machines.
  • Many customization options provide the opportunity so that a manufacturer can produce several products.
  • The material of TPR is co-molded and co-extruded with different kinds of plastics. Several customization options play a key role here.
  • As compared to a thermostat rubber, it has a faster cycle of production.

Disadvantages Of TPR:

  • The major attribute of TPR that contributes to its chemical and weathering resistance is its hardness. However, having no softness can backfire, as it will make material handling and processing more difficult.
  • Poor bending has a similar effect because it makes material processing more difficult.
  • Other minor TPR flaws include material weight, weak shock absorption, and low permeability.

Applications Of TPR Material:

TPR material is almost used in daily needs. If you are looking for this material, TPR material suppliers are there to provide you with the material meeting your requirements. Some of the applications where TPR material is used include:

  • Hardware tools
  • Luggage wheels
  • Sports equipment
  • Toy products
  • Auto parts
  • Medical products
  • Wires and cables
  • Electronic appliances
  • Communication equipment
  • Footwear products, and more.

Among these, the material of shoes and toy industries are used in TPS of SBS substrate. SEBS materials are mostly used for:

  • Aging resistance
  • Weather resistance
  • High tensile strength
  • The low hardness of material properties.
